Culture

Mayan civilization is very important for its scientific, mathematical and astronomy legacy. The most notable remains are the monumental buildings and breathtaking pyramids they built in their religious centers.

Chichen Itza is the most important archeological site in the Yucatan Peninsula, and remains one of the most representative of the Mayan culture. In 1988, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) recognized this archaeological site as a World Heritage Site, and in 2007, it was acknowledged by millions of people around the world as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. There are other important archeological sites such as Cobá, Xcaret and Ek-Balam, among others.

Cancun is a great destination for golfers, it has 14 beautiful courses for practicing this sport, natural beauty surrounded by white sand, framed by thick jungle and the turquoise waters of the Caribbean.

Shopping

There are more than 6 large malls with stores offering duty free prices. Foreign tourists have the benefit of tax refunds through TAX BACK. Additionally, the Value Added Tax (VAT) in the state of Quintana Roo is only 11%, against 16% that applies in the rest of the country.

Nightlife

One of the great attractions in Cancun is its nightlife, which is certainly very safe. Here are the most electrifying and trendy nightclubs, different shows every night, world famous DJs, live music and spectacular performances.

Currencies and exchange rates

The official currency is the Mexican Peso.  U.S. dollar is accepted almost everywhere. Currency exchange can be done at airports, banks, exchange houses, and in most hotels.

You can withdraw money from ATMs, they are available 24 hours a day, located in most commercial areas and banks.

Exchange houses are common in the hotel areea, and in the center of the city tend to have bilingual staff and the exchange rates of the day in view of the visitor. Hotel Zone, usually open exchange houses until late night. Credit cards Visa, MasterCard and American Express are received in many shops, hotels and travel agencies.

Local transportation

For transportation in Cancun you can choose to rent a car, use a taxi or use public transportation. The main car rental companies have offices in Cancun and their services can be hired at their own agencies, airport and some hotels.
